' Be it therefore ordained, that no person elected to cither house of  ections to

the general assembly of Virginia, at the election held on the twenty- bly legalized
third (lay of May eighteen hundred and sixty-one, shall be disqualified
from taking or holding hie seat by reason of his holding a military
commission, or receiving pay or emolument in the military service
of Virginia or the Confederate States of America at the time of his
election, or afterwards.
No. 55.-An ORDINANCE to Rpel'd the Ordinances concerning the
Advisory Council.

authorize the appointment of an advisory council, to define its au- repeaI]Cd
thority, to increase its number, and to prescribe the compensation of
its members, be and the same are hereby repealed.
No. 56.-An ORDINANCE adopting the Constitution of the Confederate
States.

We, the delegates of the peoploW  Virginia, in convention assem- Conntition of

bled, do, in their name and behalf, assent to, ratify and ordain th Stateb adopted
constitution of the Confederate States of America, adopted by the
congress of the Confederate States of America on tie eleventh of
March eighteen hundred, and sixty-one: and we do hereby make
known to all w' ,.n it may concern, that the said constitution is bind-
ing upon the people of this commonwealth. But this constitution is nigit to repeal
and annul re-
ratilie and adopted by Virginia, with the distinct understanding on served
her part, that she expressly reserves to herself the right, through a
convention representing her people. in their sovereign character, to
repeal and ntnul this ordinance, and to resume all the powers hereby
granted to the confederate government, whenever they shall, in her
judgment, have been perverted to her injury or oppression.
No. 57.-An ORDINANCE in relation to thn Iluttonsville nod Marlin's
Bottom Turnpike Road.
Passed June 22, 1861.
