CuAP. 190.-An ACT concerning Josiah Chambers.
[Pasod March 5, 1840.]
Preamble.     Whereas it is represented to the general assembly that Josiah
Chambers of the county of Prince Edward is now advanced in life,
and has for many years been of unsound mind, with no prospect of
recovery; that his estate, consisting in large part of slaves, is in the
hands of a committee duly appointed, and the said slaves being an-
nually hired out, are diminishing in value and numbers: And wheroas
those concerned have'petitioned the general assembly for relief:
How sale or   1. Be it therefore enarted by the general assembly, That it shall
lavof aa   be lawful for the committee of said Josiah Chambers, and for any
decreed,    successor, if he shall think a sale of said slaves will be of advantage,
to exhibit a bill for that purpose in the court by which lie was ap-
pointed, setting forth upon oath, the facts which, in his opinion, are
calculated to shew whether such sale would be advantageous or not,
and making parties defendant all persons who would he distributees
of said estate, if the said Josiah Chambers were dead. Upon due
proceedings had thereon as in other suits in chancery, it shall be
lawful for said court, if it shall be of opinion that a sale of said
Proceeds how f. slaves Will be advantageous, to make an order therefor, and to cause
vested,     to be made such application or investment of the proceeds, as in its
judgment will best secure the rights and interests of all concerned.
Commencement.  2. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.
CuAr. 191.-An ACT concerning William L. Green of 1Ialifax county,
[Passed January 7, 1846.]
Preamble.     Whereas it is represented to tie general assembly that Hannah J.
Green of Halifax, by her last will and testament bequeathed to Wil-
liam L. Green, anl infant son of Thomas J. Green of the said county,
a legacy of five hundred dollars; and that owing to unforeseen cir-
cumstances, it has become necessary to make sale of the slaves of
the said testatrix, in order to raise the legacy aforesaid : And whereas
it is further represented that it would be more in accordance with
the known wishes of the testatrix, and equally to the interests of the
said infant legatee William L. Green, to authorize the investment of
the pecuniary legacy aforesaid, with the interest thereon accrued, or
a portion of said legacy, in such of the slaves of the said testatrix as
are likely to increase in value: Therefore,

slaves.     rized and empowered to invest the legacy aforesaid, in whole or in
part, with the interest thereon accrued or that may accrue, in the
purchase of such of the negro slaves of Hannah J. Green deceased,
as lie may deem likely to increase in value; and upon such purchase
being made, the representative of said estate, upon delivery of the
slaves so purchased to the guardian of the said William L. Green,
shall stand discharged from so much of said legacy and interest as
0laveaurehsed shall have been so invested. And the said guardian shall hold the

for.        and profits, in the same mrnner and to the same extent as if they and
their increase had been bequeathed by the testatrix Hannah J. Green
