CHAP. 1.- An ACT imposing taxes for the support of government.
[Passed March 27, 18IO.]
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the public taxes for Taxes for 1813.
the year eighteen hundred and forty-three, shall be as follow: Oii on iamtdi.
lands, (except such as are exempted by law from taxation,) for every
hundred dollars value thereof, (agreeably to the assessment of lands
made pursuant to the act, entitled  an act providing for the reassess-
ment of lands in this commonwealth, passed March the twenty-fourth,
eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, and the act, entitled  an act to
amend the act, entitled ' an act providing for the reassessment of
lands in this commnonwealth,'  passed March fhe first, eighteen hun-
dred and thirty-nine,) fifteen cents ; for all houses and lots in any ifouseq and lots
city, borough or town, (except such as are exempted by law from in towns.
taxation,) three dollars and sixty cents for every hundred dollars
yearly rent or annual value thereof; for all houses and lots in any
city, borough or town, (except such as are exempted by law from
taxation,) improved anti not rented or occupied, and for all unim-
proved lots as aforesaid, fifteen cents for every hundred dollars value
thereof, agreeably to the above cited acts, providing for a reassess-
ment of lands in this commonwealth ; for every slave above the age siavc.
of twelve years, (except such as have been, or may be, exempted in
consequence of age or infirmity, by the respective county and corpo-
ration courts,) forty-six cents ; for every stallion or jackass, twice the hores.
price at which such stallion or jackass covers a mare by the season ;
and when the services of such stallion or jackass are charged for,
not in money, but in provisions or other commodities of value, then
twice the alternative value of such property, in money, such value to
be fixed by the commissioner of the revenue: Providcd, That not
less than six dollars be paid on every stallion or jackass let to mares;
for all other horses, mares, asses, mules and colts, fourteen cents
each ; for every riding or pleasure carriage, stage coach, jersey wagon Carriages.

per centum on the value thereof, to be ascertained by the commis-
sioner of the revenue, in the manner prescribed by law : Provided,
That not less than two dollars shall be paid on each four-wheeled
riding or pleasure carriage and harness, and not less than three dol-
lars on each stage coach and harness, anti not less than one dollar
on each jersey wagon and carryall and harness, and not less than
fifty cents on each two-wheel riding or pleasure carriage and harness.
