Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the auditor ofr Volitdarry at. public accounts be, aid he is hereby authorized and required to i,. ,tllo,.,,ukoor issue a warrant upon tile treasury in fivoulr ol Vcrlinda Perry ofdenuini lodloath. the county of Loudoun, for the sum of eight hundred dollars, being the amount at which a negro slave, tile property of the said Perry, sentenced to banishment beyond the limits of tile United States, by the court of the said county, for causing to be printed and circu- lated a paper denying the right of masters to their slaves, and in- culcating the duty of resistance to such right, was valued, to be paid to her or her representative out of any money in tile treasury not otherwise appropriated. '. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof. co, ocle,,t. CHAPt. 197.-An ACT concerning Stijiire Sayre. 1. Be it enacted by the grentral assembl!/, That Squire Sayre Sir s,,nron,- shall he and lie is hereby authorized and jnriittd to institute and ,. t prosecute in tile circuit superior court or law and chaicery lbr the rom w,;ooy 1or county of llenrico, aiiy proper action against the president, threc- tors and company of the Northwestern turnpike road for the alleged iijury to him by the loss of his mills on Middle Island creek iii the county of Harrison ; to which said action it shall be no bar that the defendants are a public corporation fbr public purposes; but the said defendants shall have the right to set up all such matters ill defence thereof' which they would have if they were a private cor- poration, but no other or different matter ; and the same proceed- ings in all respects shall be had in such action as are prescribed by the act, entitled an act amending the act regulating proeedings in suits against corporations, passed M1arch tile seveiteenth, eigh- teen hundred and thirty-seven. 2.
