Washington, in the same manner as if she had been emancipated
by the will of said Burk, until some person claiming as next of kin,
or as a creditor of the estate of tie said Burk, shall assert and
Provi,o.    maintain a right to her ad a slave: Provided however, That if the
county court of the said county of Washington shall hereafter see
cause to order the said Emma to depart the commonwealth, they
shall have full power so to order, and thenceforth the leave of resi-
dence hereby granted shall cease and determine.
Commonconont.  2. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.

Eliza and Loulso  1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That Eliza, or Lizzie
Pr1tid tatoe.  Purdie, and Louise, sometimes called Louise Hardy, of the county
of Isle of Wight, free persons of colour, aged about sixty years,
shall be and they are hereby permitted to remain as free persons
within this commonwealth, and to reside in the said county of Isle
of Wight ; upon their severally entering into bond with such secu-
rity as may be approved of by the county court of the said county,
in that court, payable to the overseers of the poor of the said
county, in such penalty as the court may direct, conditioned for her
general good conduct and deportment, and that she shall not be-
Proviso.    come chargeable to the county: Provided however, That if they
or either of them shall hereafter be convicted by the verdict of a
jury, o the judgment of a court of any offence ag.inst the laws of
this commonwealth, the privilege hereby granted shall thenceforth
cease, as to one or bth as the case may be, against whom the 6on-
viction may be had.
Counnacomont.  2. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.
