Be it Enacted by the general assembly, That if any slave, free trape by a slavo, negro or mulatto, shall ravish or attempt to ravish any white female J,ow punished. person, infant or adult, such offender his aiders and abettors shall be adjudged guilty of felony, and shall suffer death without the benefit of clergy, any law, custom or usage to the contrary not- withstanding. 2. And be. it further enacted, That all acts and parts of acts Repealing elaun. I Rev. Uno 1819, coming within the purview of this act, shall be, and the same are , Su,.R. hereby repealed : Provided however, That nothing in this act con- i'-'8. tained shall be construed to repeal any acts or parts of acts, for so much thereof as may relate to any ofliice committed or done before the commnencement of this act. 3. This act shall be in force from the passage thereof. Commenco,ment, CHAP. 72.-An ACT to prevent trespasses by non-residents in certain coun- ties. (Passed January 30, 1837.) 1. Be it farther enacted, That every entry of any such horses, rCtry or stock ,hogs, sheep or neat cattle, contrary to the provisions of this act, dowmedtrespals C, - byowner. shall be deemed in law a trespass by the owner, person or persons Stock liable for having the care or charge of such horses, hogs, sheep or neat cat- damages. tie, and all horses, hogs, sheep or neat cattle shall be liable in damages to the person or persons aggrieved, in a sum not exceed- ing fity cents on each head of horses, twenty cents on each head of sheep, twenty cents on each head of hogs, and fifty cents on each head of neat cattle thus trespassing, fur each and every day that they shall be and remain on the lands or premises of any citi- zen in either of the counties albresaid, to be recovered before any nowrcoovored. justice of the peace for said counties or either of them, in the man- ner hereinafter prescribed. 3.
