Whereas Richard H. Edwards, late treasurer of the school corn- Preamble.
missioners of the county of Surry, by an accidental mistake in
transferring the balance due from him as treasurer, expended the
sum of one hundred dollars more than was actually in his hands,
the benefits whereof have been received by the poor children of
said county to the loss and injury of the said Richard 1-. Edwards:
For remedy whereof,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the treasurer ofsum rerundod to
the school commissioners of the county of Surry be hereby autho- wards.
rized and directed to pay and refund to the said Richard IH. Ed.

of said county for the year eighteen hundred and thirty-six, and
charge the same in his annual account in settling with the board of
school commissioners.
2. This act shall bein force from its passage.            Commencement.

late charity school of Charles City, and the overseers of the poor of said
county.

used for the support and maintenance of the poor thereof, all the
funds or sums of money which he may have received as treasurer
of said charity school, and which remain in his hands unappropri-
ated to the purposes of that institution.
2. This act shall take effect from its passage.            Commencement.
CHAP. 255.-An ACT to amend the act, entitled, an act concerning William
Brown.

Whereas it is represented to the general assembly, that in confor- Preamble.
mity with the provisions of the act, entitled, an act concerning
William Brown, passed 7 nuary the twenty-second, eighteen hun.
dred and twenty-seven, the county courtofFranklin county authorized
the said Brown to erect a dam across Blackwater river in said county,
but that the height of said dam us limited by the said act, is insuffi-
cient to alhrd a body of water to carry into complete operation the
mills and other machinery attached thereto:
1. Be it thereforc enacted, That it shall be lawful for the county williim Brown
