Be it enacted, That the said Jacob Woods and Scaly Woods w,,..i,,,,.,d shall be, and they are hereby permitted to remain as free persons within this commonwealth, and to reside in the said county of Scott: J'rovidel, That if the said Jacob Woods and Scaly Woods, or either ofrthem, shall hereafter Ihe convicted by the verdict of a jury, or the judglelt of a court of record, of any offence against the laws of this commonwealth, the privilege hereby granted shall cease. Whereas it is represented to the general assembly of the com- nionwealth of Virginia, by Sanuel Leonard and Celia his wife, peo- ple of colour, of the county of Italiffix, that they were emancipated several years ago by their mistress Isabella Leoiard, late of the said county, who, by her will devised them (and Dennis Leonard, ano- ther emancipated slave,) all her estate, real and personal; that the said Sainuel and Celia are both above sixty years of age, and have no children, and having petitioned the legislature to be permitted to relain ini this conutuoinwealth Ro,,,,,,,,,,,I 1 I.
