commonwealth,.and to reside in the said county of Hardy, until the
death of Elizabeth Vanmeter, (widow of Abraham Vanmeter late
of said county,) and one year afterwards, but no longer. And it is
hereby declared, that one reason for granting this privilege is, for
the purpose of enabling them to dispose of their property, devised
to them by their late master, by afrording them time ; and to make
such other arrangements and preparations, as they (and others con-
cerned in the event of the death of said Elizabetlh Vanmeter,) may
deem necessary for their departure from this commonwealth : Pro- iroviso.
vided however, That if the said Charles, Isaac, Andrew, Hannibal,
Rebecca and Sarah Bruce, or either of them, shall hereafter be con-
victed by the verdict of a jury, and the judgment of a court, of any
offence against  the laws of this commonwealth, it shall be lawfil
for time court of the said county of HIardy, or for time court of that
county or corporation, within which the conviction and judgment
may be had, a majority of the acting justices being present, or hav-
ing been summoned for that purpose, and the said parties, or either
of them, against whom proceedings as aforesaid, shall have been
had, having been duly summoned, to show cause against it, to re-
voke the leave of residence hereby granted, if deemned expedient,
and thereupon to order him or her to depart, forthwith, from this
commonwealth. And it; after such order of revocation, lie or site
shall remain within this commonwealth more than twelve months,
lie or she shall forfeit his or her right to freedom, and be subject to
presentment, prosecution and sale, in the manner provided by tile
laws of this commonwealth, then in force, concerning slaves, free
negroes and mulattoes.
2. This act shall bi in force from the passing thereof.  Comnmoncomont.

1. Be it enacted by the general assenmbly of the conmnonwealth of* hoo, Ilcrdinan
Virginia, That for the purpose of enabling Moses lerduman, a man loi to remai-
of colour, lately emancipated by John Herdman, of the county of mitod time.
Rockingham, to reduce to possession a legacy payable to him in
April, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four, the said Moses
Herdman be allowed to reside in the said county unmolested, for
the term of two years, but no longer: and if at any time within
that period, the county court of said county bhall see cause to order
the said Moses to depart the commonwealth, they shall bave full
power so to order; and thenceforth the leave of residence hereby
granted, shall cease.
2. This act shall be in force from the passing thereof.  Commencement.
