1. Be it emated by tAs gemral ausmbly, That the courts of. the Towns tel. ea.
incorporated towns in this commonwealth shall have power to di. V'GW'low.
vide the militia of ,aid. townp into wards or districts, and may ap.
point one or more officers in each ward, to be denominated captains
of patrol: each officer and his squad shall be comrlled, when on Duty otp.
duty, to visit all parts of the town, and shall patrol once on every
week or oftener if required by the court, and shall receive for every Pay or   Is
twelve hours service, the officer one dollar, and each patrol seventy. *.1ow.
five cents, to be levied on the house-keepers, property and titheables
in said towns. For failing to attend and petlorm his duty according rm.., o Pout.
to the directions of this act, and the directions contaned in the  .
third section of an act to reduce into one act the several acts now
in force concerning patrols, paged February the fourth, eighteen
hundred and nineteen, the olficer &hall forfeit and pay three dollars,
the non-comraissioned officers and privates one dollaeeach; to.be re.  ,,w
covered in the same manner as other militia fines, and be paid over ad appd.
to the court and applied to the pay of the patrol.
. Be it fwter eacted, That the commandants of regiments Wts .oewd.
within the incorporated towns are hereby authorized to call out their  ,e ,c.1
respective regiments, or such parts thereof as they may think best P•rl.
to repel invasion, suppress insurrection, and to usist tho civil autho-
rity cm case of riot and breach of the peace.
. Be itfurther eacted, That hereafter for the ltrpoe of per- C_ ts
forming patrol duty in the'counties and towns, not incorporated, d  ivUSPSe=
commanding officers of regiments shall require the commanding of- q-a.
ficers of battalions to have the companies of their battalions num-
bered by allotment, and the commanding officers of companies
shall cause their companies to be divided into five squads or divi-
sions; and whenever the commanding officers of regiments may  s  pow
think it necessary to appoint patrols, or shall be applied to by two my a ero
justices of the peace, he shall isue orders to the commanding or.
ficers of battalions, whose duty it shall be to keep a roster of their
battalions, an& to furnish to each of the commanding officers of
companies a copy of it.
4. The captain who commands company number one, with squad _moa.. me p
number one of his company, shall perform the first tour of d'uty, 6'.j a'
which tour shall not be more than one week, and so on until each
captain, with squad number one of his company has performed one
tour of duty: they shall then commence again at company number
one, and the lieutenanit with squad number two of his company,
shall perform the next tour of duty, and so on until all the lieuten-
ants with squad number two of their companies shall have per-
formed one tour of duty: they shall then commence again at com-
pany number one, and the ensign with squad number three of his
company shall perform the next tour of duty, and so on until each
ensign with squad number three of his company hu perforwed one
tour of duty: they shall then commence again at conipany number
one, and the first sergeant with squad number four shall perform
the next tour of duty, and so on until each first sergeant with mquad
number four of his company has performed one tour of duty: they
shall commence again at company number one, and the second ser-
geant with squad number five of his company, shall perform the
next tour of duty, and so on until each second sergeant with squad
