CHAP. CLXXVII.-AN ACT to amend and revive ah act to incorporate a
company to erect a toll-bridge across the Shenandoah river.

of three years, to be computed from and after the expiration of the rion of bridge
time heretofore allowed by h4, shall be, and is hereby allowed to acrosfihenandoah
the Harper's Ferry anti Shenandoah Toll-Bridge Company, in the .....
county of Jefferson, to commence and complete a toll-bridge across
the Shenandoah river, at Harper's ferry, at any point between the
junction of said river with the Potowmnac, and the upper end of the
island in the Shenandoah, upon which the town of Virginius stands,
authorized by an act passed January the seventeenth, eighteen hun-
dred and twenty-nine, any thing or any law to the contrary notwith-
standing.
2. This act-shall he in force from and after the passage thereof. Commenaement.
CHAP. CLXXVIiT.--AN ACT to provide against the abuse of the bridges
across the Potowmac and Shenandoah rivers at I lurper's Ferry, and over James
river at Cartersville and at Pattonsburg.

1. lBe it enacted by the gencrd asscmbqll, That if any person or Penalty fordriving
persons shall hereafter wilfully, wantonly or maliciously, ride upon tnyowm bridge.
or drive horses over the Potowmnac bridge, or the bridge authorized
by law to be built over the Shenandoah river at Harper's Ferry,
faster than in a walk, every such person, his, her and their aiders
and abettors, shall lbrfiit anti pay a sum of money not less than one
dollar, nor more than three dollars; one-half thereof to the conunon-
wealth for the use of the literary fil(, and the other for the use of
tile owner or owners of said bridges, to be recovered by warrant, flow recovereble.
at the instance of the owner or owners of said bridges, before any
justice of the peace for any county of this commonwealth, having
jurisdiction thereof; and if such person or 'persons be a slave or Slave, how pun.
slaves, lie, she or they shall b)e punished with stripes, not exceeding ilan.

of this commonwealth whereinl the offence may have been committed,
unless the owner of such slave or slaves shall pay the amiount of
fine aforesaid, to be recovered and divided as aforesaid.

not be entitled to recover under the provisions of this act.
