Commencement. 3. This act shall be in force from its passag'e. CHAPTER 129.-An act authorising the executor of James Bray, deceased, to sell lands devised to the negroes emancipated by said Bray. (Passed January 16th, 1830.) Preamble. Whereas, it is represented to the General Assembly, by Arm. streat Bruce, executor of the last will and testament ot James Bray, deceased, that his testator by his will, of record in the county court of Chesterfield, emancipated all his slaves, now twenty-five in number, and devised and bequeathed to them his whole estate real and personal ; that his testator (lied seized and possessed in fee simple of three several tracts of land, and of three undivided eighth parts of ten acres of land, and a water grist mill thereon, all lying in the county of Chesterfield, one of which tracts of land contains about four hundred and one acres, another contains about ten acres, and the third contains about ninety acres ; and that as the devisees under the said will formerly the slaves of the said Bray, are obliged to remove from this Com- rnonwealth, in order to retain their freedom, it would conduce greatly to their benefit, that the aforesaid lands should be sold, and the proceeds of the sale thereof should be vested in land for their benefit in the State to which they shall determine to re- move: Armstreat Bruce 1.
