Be it enacled by the General Aissenbly, That if any person Persons assisting shall unlawfully procure, furnish or deliver, or aid, abet or assist .acaPeof slaves, in procuring, furnishing or delivering, to or for any slave, any let- egilt ofa, misd ter, permit, pass, or other writin- whatsoever, with intent it so do- ing to deprive the owner or other person lawfully possessed thereof, of the use, services and advantages of such slave ; or shall in any other manner whatever unlawfulfy and wilfully aid, abet or assist any slave to escape from the possession of his or her owner, or other person lawfululy entitled thereto, and with intent in so doing, to deprive the owner, or other person so entitled, (f the use and benefit of such slave, every person so oefending, his, her or their aiders and abettors, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and being thereof lawfully convicted, shall be punished by confinement in iow puniuhable. the jail of the county or corporation, or a term not less titan three months, nor more than twelve months, and be fined at the discre- tion of Ia jury; and siall moreover be liable to the action of the party u,,grieved. 2. /nd be itfurther enacted, That the copy of the register now Seal of court to be. required by law to be delivered by the clerk of any county or cur..annW.ed to regis. • t •terof free nlegro! poration court, to any free negro or mulatto, registered therein, wteout t. o shall have the seal of the said court annexed thereto, but no tax for annexin; said seal shall be demanded.
