CjIAPTER 2.-An act appropriating the public revenue.

1. lie it enacted by tile General Jlssembiq, That the taxes and ('choral fand.
arrears of taxes (e prior to the first day of October last, not
otherwise appropriated, and all other branches of revenue, and
all public monies not otherwise appropriated by law, which shall
come into the public treasury prior to the first day of' October
next) and the surp!us of all appropriations heretofore made, shall
constitute a general fund, andbe appropriated as follows, to wit:
to the expenses of the General Assembly, one hundred thousand  l, cific appro-
dollars ; to the alaries and allowances of the officers of civil pzkLuiol..
government, seventy-six thousand dollars ; the contingent expen-
ses of courts, twenty-five thousand dollars ; to the commissioners
of the revenue and the clerks for examining commissioners' bonks,
twenty eight thousand dollars; to defray criminal charges, in-
cluding services of jailors and jail guards, forty.two thousand
dollars; as a civil contingent fund, sixteen thousand dollars ; as
a military contingent fund, five hundred dollars ; to militia es-
tablishmnent, includin.g services of clerks of courts of enquiry,
adjutants, provost martinis and expresses, ani for the purchase
of drums, fifes and the pay.of musicians, where tl,( fines in thzi regi-
inents are insuflicient, twenty-five thousand dollars ; to the ofli-
cers of militia, including the adjutant general anti brigade inspec-
tors, Iour thousand five hundrel dollars ; to the internal char-es
of the penitentiary house, six thousand dollars ; to transportation
of cr'ininals to the penitentiary house, seven thousand dollars ;
to officers' salaries of the penitentiary, six thousand dollars ; to
the public guard at Richmond, sixteen thousand live hundred dol-
lars ; to expeies oif representation to Congress anti State Sen-
ate, one thoPusand dollars ; to slaves transported or executed, ten
thousand dollars ; to public warehouses, including pay of' super-
intendents, one thousand dollars ; additional appropriation for
the governor's house, unexpended on the first day of October last,
under the act passed on the twenty-sixth (lay of February, ei,,h-
teen hundred anti twenty-fou,', on'e thousand dollars; to clerls,
sheriff and marshal's fees, five hundred dollars ; to the support
of the lunatic hospital at Williamsburg, twelve thousand five hun.
dred dollars; to the expenses of' the guard at the arsenal at Lex-
ingtor, four thousand dollars; for. collection and transportation
of armns, live hundred dollars ; for defraying the expenses of the
manufacture of arias, six thousand dollars; for repairing the peni-
tentiarv with the assistance of the convicts, ten thousand, six
hundred and seventy-nine dollars; to Pay interest on three hun-
(red and nineteen thousand dollars of te seven per cent. lebt,
twenty-two thousand three hundred and thirty dollars ; to the
sinking fund, forty-six thousand dollars, to be applied to the pay-
ment of interest and the r'edemption of the principal of the old
six per cent. certificate debt; for the payment of pensions al-
lowed by law, live thoutiand five hundred dollars ; fotr defraying
the expenses incurred in purchasing of, andt distributing lienin,'s
Justice, eight thousand seven hundred and lifty dollars ; to def!y
the expense of erecting a lunatic hospital- west of the Blue Ridge,
ten thousand dollars ; to defray the expenses incur,'ed at York in
