CIIAIrER I.-An act, imposing taxes for the support of Government.
(Passed February 2d, 18,25.J
1. Be it enacted by the General /Js.sembly, That the public taxes Taxes for 1625.
for the year one thousand eight hundred ani twenty-five, shall be
as follows, to wit: On lands for every hundred dollars value thore- Oa lands;
of, (agreeably to the act, for arranging the counties into districts,
for the election of -Senrtors, and for equalizing the land tax,
passed February the eighteenth, one thousand eight hundred and
seventeen, and the act further to amend and explain the act, on-
titled 'an act, for arran-in, tile counties into districts, for the
election of Senators, ann Fw equalizing the land tax, passed
March the first, one thousand eight hundred and nineteen,) eight
cents; for all houses anti lots in town, two dollars and three cents, Houses and lots
for every hundred dollars of yearly rent or annual value thereof; in towns;
for all houses and lots improved. and not rented or occupied, and
all unimproved lots in any city, town or borough, eight cents for
every hundred dollars value thereof, agreeably to the above reci-
ted acts, for arranging the counties into districts for the election
of Senators, and for equalizing the land tax; for every slave above Slaves;
the age of twelve years, (except such as have been, or may be
exempt, in consequence of age or infirmity, by the respective
county or corporation courts,) forty-seven cents; for every stallion lorses, asses, kc.
or jack ass, twice the price at which such stallion or jack ass co-
vers a mare by the season; for all other horses, asses, mares,
mules anti colts, twelve cents each; for every ordinary license, or Ordioaries and
license to keep a house of pivate entertainment, seven dollars houses o1 private
for every hundred dollars of yearly rent or value thereof, such
rent or value to be ascertained bv the commnissioner of the reve-
nue in the manner prescribed by law: Provided, That, for no such
license, a less sut than eighteen dollars shall be paid: dind pro-
vided, also, that when any house of private entertainment, shall
be of a less value than seven hundred dollars, but one fourth of
the sum aforesaid shall be charged for such license; Jnd proi-
ded, frther, That no tax shall be levied on any house of private
entertainment, unless the same shall be situated wit) in some city,
town or borough, or within eight hundred yards actual distance of
some public road or highway; for every riding and pleasure car- Carriages;
riage, stage waggon, Jersey waggon and carryall, andl harness be-
longing thereto, one per centuin on the value thereof; tile value to
be ascertained by the commissioner of the revenue in the manner
prescribed by law: Provided, That not less than two dollars, shall
be paid upon each four-wheel riding and pleasure carriage and
harness, anti not less'than one dollar-on each stage waggon, Jersey
waggon and carryall, with the harness belonging thereto, and not
less than fifty cents on each two wheel riding or pleasure carri-
