CHAPTER 2.- An ot nppiroprinting the puihlic revenue,
[Passed February 21st, 1823.)
1. Be it enacted by the General O.lssembly, 'I hat the taxes ald Gu .ra .-und
arrears of taxes, due prior to the first day of October last, notbilathtd.
otherwise appropriated, and all other branches of revenue, an(] all
other public monies not otherwise appropriated by law, which
shall come into the public treasury, prior to the first (lay of Oc-
tober next, and the surpifis of all appropriations heretofore made,
shall constitute a general fund, and be appropriated as follows:
To the expenses of the General Assembly, ninety-five thousand Specific npprn
dollars ; to the salaries and allowances of the olicers of the ci. priatifias.
vii government, including allowances to sheriffis and attornies for
attendance in circuit courts, and to marshals for  ttending su-
pelrior courts of chancery, ninety-one thousand dollars ; to com-
missioners of the revenue and clerks for examining commission-
ers' books, twenty-five thousand dollars ; to defray criminal char-
ges, including services of jailors and iail guards, forty thousand
dollars ; to services of clerks of circuit courts, three thousand
dollars; as a civil contingent fund, twelve thousand dollars ; as
a military contingent fund, eight hundred -dollars ; to militia es-
tablishment, including services of clerks of courts of enquiry,
ad.iutants, provost marshals and expresses, and for the purchase
of drums, fifes, and the pay of musicians, where the fines in the
regiment are insufficient, twenty-live thousand dollars; to the
officers of militia, including adjutant general and brigade inspec-
tors, four thousand dollars ; to penitentiary interual charges, six
thousand dollars ; to trhnsportation of criminals to the peniten.

six thousand dollars ; to the public guard at Richmond, seven-
teen thousand dollars ; to expenses of representation to Congress
and state Senate, one thousand dollars ; to slaves transportetland
executed, nine thousand dollars ; to public warehouses including
pay of superintendents, one thousand five hundred dollars; to
clerks', sherilth' and marshals' fees, five hundred dollars; to the
support of the lunatic hospital, Williamsburg, ten thousand dol-
lars ; to the expenses of guard at the arsenal at Lexington, five
thousand eight hundred dollars ; to Hening's Statutes tit Large,
four thousand dollars; to gun carriages and transportation of
arms, five hundred dollars; to sinking fund, one huutdred and
fifty thousand dollars ; to pensioners, live thousand five hundred
doll.rs ; for defraying the expences of cleaning and repairing the
public arms, ten thousand dollars.  1
