CHAPTER CLXXV.-An act concerning Polly B. Clover.
* (Passed January 12th, 1919.)
Whereas it is repiesented to the, General Assembly, by Polly ,mmle.
B. Glover, that she removed with her husband, James Glover, from
the county of Buckingham, in this State, to the Alabama territory,
who carried with him sundry slaves, with the intention of pur-
chasing lands and settling there ; that, during the last year, the
said Polly was deprived  y death, of her said husband, and left
with a helpless infant, in a distant land, without relatives or
friends ; tbat she has since returned to the place of her nativity,
in the said county of Buckingham; and brought with her the said
slaves, upon whose labor she and her infant child depend solely
for their support; and the said Polly B. Glover having petitioned
the Legislature to be authorized by law to hold the said slaves in
this state:
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly, That the said Polly Pon, n. Glover au.

Keziah, Cary and Abraham, in this state, free from any fine, terriory.
penalty or forfeiture whatsoever, incurred or to be incurred by
reason of the introduction of the said slaves into this Common-
wealth as aforesaid.

CI[APTER CLXXVI.-An act concerning Ilicliard P. Montgomery.
(Passed January 28th, 1819.)
Whereas it appears to the General Assembly, that Richard P. 're,,ble.
Montgomery, of the county of Mecklenburg, did, in the year one
thousand eight hundred 1and sixteen, carr out of this Common-
wealth into the state of North Carolina, three slaves, to wit
Matilda, Jenny anti Goodwin, intending at that time to reside in
the said state ; but the said Montgomery finding it more to his
interest to remain in this Commonwealth, sold the said slaves,
and has since purchased and brought into this state three other
slaves, to wit : Harry, Tamer and Camel ; and has petitioned the
Legislature that he may be permitted to retain the same within
this Commonwealth
1. Be it enacted, That the said Richard P. Montgomery shall Richard '. antr.

CIAPTEIrt CLXXVII.-An act concerning Thomas l1yrd.
(Passed February 4th, 1819.)
Whereas it is represented to the present General Assembly, by -rcatble.
Thomas Byrd, that, several years ag0, he instituted a suit in thme
superior court of chancery for the Staunton district, against the
heirs of Samuel Vance, late of the county of Bath, for the recovery
of sundry slaves; that, during the pendency of the said suit, Ben-
jamin Vance, son of the said Samuel, and one of the defendants
in the suit aforesaid, removed one of the said negroes (afterwards
decreed by the said court to the said Byrd,) to the state of Ken-
