WHEREAS it is represented to the General Assembly by
Samuel Fitzgerald and Mary.his wife, (late Mary Harper,) that,
about the year 1790, the said Mary removed from the county of
Amherst in this State to the State of Georgia, under the guardi-
anship of her brother, who departed this lite about the year 1807,
leaving the said Mary unprotected and friendless, in consequence
of *vhich she returned to her fi iends in this Sutte ; that the estate
of her said brother was divided, and there was assigned to the
said Mary two negro children, who have since that period been
removed inito this tCominonwealth, for the personal service of the
said Samuel and Mary, without the previous knowledge that such
removal was inhibited by the laws of this State: and the said
Samuel and Mary having petitioned the Legislature to be author-
ised to retain the said slaves therein as their property ;
Samael Fttgerald  1. Be it enacted, That the said Samuel and Mary shall be, and
towe    hi, hold ill tte they are hereby authorised and empowered to hold the said two

Georgia.    fine, penalty or forleiture whatsoever incurred or to be incurred
rro,i,o.     by reason of their removal into this State as aforesaid : provided,
that the said Samuel and Mary Fitzgerald shall, within sixty days
from the passage of this rict, exhibit, to some justice of the'peace
fur the county of Anherst, a statement in writing containin_ the
name, age, sex and description of the aforesaid slaves Samuerand
Mary; and moreover shail make oath or solemn aflirmation be-
fore such justice that the said statement contains a true account
of tile slaves so brought in, and that tlhe said slaves have not
been brought into this Commnnwealth for the purpose of sale,
or with intent to evade the laws of this Commonwealth to pre-
vent the further importation of slaves; and within sixty days
thereafter shall return such statement, together with a certifica'te
of the said oath or affirmation, to the court of the said county, there

the said Samuel and IMary Fitzgerahl, by virtue oif the provision
in this section contained, to make any voluntary sale or contract
for the sale of' such slaves, within the'space of two years from the
passage of this act ; and if the said Saniuel and Mary shall make
such sale or contract contrary to the true intent and meaning
hereof, the slave or slaves so sold or contracted to be sol shall
be forfeited, and be subject to tile same proceedings and appro-
priation as if this provisiot had never been made.

X.0itle.        WHEREAS it appears to the General Assembly, that Martin
Shearman deceased, late of the county of Lancaster, did, in the
year eighteen hundred and thirteen, receive from the Executive a
certain sum of money, for the purpose of paying individuals from
whom the conmuis.;ary had purchased ratmis amd Forage for the
use of the troops then in the service of the United States, and for
which lie paid, to each individual, or their representatives, the
current price of every article furnished, as his receipts will shew;
