proved December 111h, 1857, be amended so as to be In force as follows:
c. 3. Twenty copies of the report of the Comptroller, and ten copies, respect-
ively, of the reports of the Treasurer, Commissioner of the General Land Office,
Secretar' of State, Attorney General, Adjutant General, Dirtetors of the State
Penitentiury. and other public officers and managers of institutions, required
to report to the Governor, shall be printed for the use of each member of the
Legislature ; and the Secretary of State shall send the same, in proper pro-
portions, to the presiding oficers of both Houses of the Legislature, at the
commeLcemnent of each regular session, for the use of the members.

CIlAPTEit LIV.
AN   ACT to irovide for the Man efao.urv of Iron by the Military
Board.
Sc'ION 1. Je it Cnacted 1l le Leisteuire of the State of Texas, That it shall
be the duty of the Military Board to erect and put into operation one or more
furnaces aid forges, and other suitable works, for the manufacture of Iron, to
be located at such place, or places, as may he selected by said board.
Sfc. 2. That all iron manufittured by said board, or under their direction,
not needced for the delense of the State or in the performance of their duties.
shall be sold to tle people, according to such regulations and on such terms as
said Military Board may establish, and the proceeds of such sales paid into the
treasury of the State.
SEc. 3. 'That one million of dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary,
be and lhe same is hereby appropriated fur the purpose of carrying into effect
the provisions of this bhill.
SEt. 4. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER LV.
AN   A CT to amend Article 960 of the Code of Criminal Piroceduro.
ScioN 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Texas, That Article
960 of the Code of Criminal 1Proceduro shall be so amended, as hereafter to read
as fellows : The Slietiff shall receive from the county, for each guard lie may
employ, and for tle support end maintenance of each prisoner in his custody,
such tinonnt as the Chief Justice may, In his discretion, desigtale as necessary
and sufficient ; and that this act take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER LVI.

S:cTio\ 1. lie it enacted by the leqislature of the State of 7exas, That any
person, or persons, who shall compel his or her slaves, children, or apprentices,
to labor on the Sabbath, the day known as Sunday, shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor, and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than ten nor more
than fifty dollars: l'rovided, That household duties, works of necessity and
charity, shall not be prohibited by thi act: Provided furthe', That this act
shall not apply to any work done on sugar plintations during the sugar-making
season, or any work that may be necessary to save any crop.
St:c. 2. That any person, or persons, who slll run or be engaged in running
any horse race,, or eongage in the retal of splrltuou or other intoxicating liquors,
