CHAPTER 1.
Be -it IReaolved by the Leyi lature of the St ate of '2eaa8:
''hat his Excellency, the Governor, be authorized and i'e.
(1uosted to issue his Proclamation and order for an election to fill
the vacancy occasioned by the death of the late Joseph C.lIar-
rison, Representative from the counties of Cherokee and Ange-
lina, to those counties, and that lie orddr said election to be hol-
don on Thursday. the 12th da , of December next, and that tbe
Chief Justices of said counties be authorized to break the poll
and compare the vote upon the next day after said election.-.
That tie Chief Justice of Angelina, or Commissioners of Ange-
lina county, as provided by law, shall issue his certificato of
election to the elect) as soon as the facts are ascertained, that he
may proceed to the city of Austin immediately ; provided that
five days previous notice shall be given of said election.
And this resolution take effect from and after its passage,
Apprvcd 28th November, 1855.
Is!, Re8olved by the Legislatura of the State f Texa, That
this State regards the act of Congress passdd in 1850, auiitting
Calitbrnia into the Union, fixing the boundary of Texas, estab-
lishing territorial governments in Utah adid ew Mexico, coin-
posing a part of what is commonly egildh the compronlise
measures of 1850, as questions fully settled, so far as they have
relation to the question of slavery, and that Texas is opposed to
aly change in thoso laws effecting (affecting) their principles on
the great questions which have utnlhappily divided the Northern
and Southorn States of the Union.
