An Act to amend the sixth Section of an Act entitled An Act concerning Slaves 1850 42 (1850.11)

cation, provided, that the capital stock shall not exceed fifty

SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, That books Shall be open
to receive subscriptionis in sums not less than five dollars, and
any person who shill subscribe the surn of live dollars, shall be
considercd a portion or stockholder of said Academy, may have
the righutto sell or'transfer their stock at pleasure, and shall have
the privilege of voting in person or 'by proxy in all elections no-
cessury fbr the government of said Academy, piroviled, no
one stockholder shall own more than twenty shares, and provi.
Wed, also, that no teacher in said Academy shall-be a stockholder
ill the same.
Sj.-c. 3. The stockholders may have the power to disfranchise
any of their members by a vote of two thirds, provided, they pay
tosucih stockholder the amount ef his subscription.
Src. 4. The stockholders shall elect from their number-not
less than five nor more than seven trustces, who shall hold their
office as such for the term of one year, whose duty it shall be to
procnre teachers, regulate prices of tuition, and govern gencrally
the operattons of the institution, and shall httve power to elect
from their number a President, Secretary, and rPreasurer, who
shall hold their offices for the term for which the trustees are
elected.
Siec. 5. The trustees shall have power to make such by-laws
as they deem necessary for their own government and the Iall-
agement of the Instittilion, provided, they do not conflict with
lie oonstitution and laws of the State, and may alter and amend
'them tt pleasure, and that this act-take eflct and bein force flom
ald after its passage.
