SECTION 1. lie it exacted by the Legislatura of the State of
'exas, That the Third sectioii of tile above recited aclt, be so
amended as to read as follows : Sec. 3. That the county courts
of the counties shall lay off their counties into road precincts,
and shall, at their first meeting in each and evcry year, appoint
one overseer for each precinct, and shall, at the same time, desig-
nate all the hands lialle to work on public roads under the dif-
ferent overseers in their county, and in case any hand, or hands,
liable to work on roads, shall not have been designated by
said court, the overseer shall have power to summons themi

Ixeen designated by the Court: Provided, ten days residence
I)e necessary to require the performance of said road service, lit
if, fromi any cause, the court should fail or neglect to perform tile

8i.Sc. 2. He it further ctacted, That the Sixth section of tle
ihove recited act, shall be amended so as to read as follows: Sec.
i. That the overseer of the road shall have power to call out all
)ersons liable to work on public roads, at any time when it may
lpear necessary to work or repair the roads, or any part of them
a their precinct: Provided, that no one person shall be com-
ielled to work on more roads than one, nor more than six days
a each year, and fnrther provided, that every overseer of a road
,hall work through his beat at least twice in each year, between
he months of April and August, and between the months of
ieptember and January.
Sc. 3. Be it further enacled, That the Seventh section of
aid act, shall be amended so as to read as follows : Sec. 7. That
t shall be the duty of the overseer of any road, to give two
lays' previous notice by sunmmons in person, or in writing left at
heir respective places of abode, to all free nmale persons, as well
.s to the owners, overseers or employers of slaves liable to work
n the road in his precinct, to meet at such time and place for
hat purpose as he shall designate ; and bring with them such
