Givilv tile consent of tihe existing (Government to ilie annexation
of Texas to Ihe IUnited States.
Whereas, the (Government of tle U nited States hath proposed th
following terms, guaranlces, and conditions, on which the Peo-
ple alli! Territor 'v of ilhe lIemhli' of Texas may Ihe erected into
a new State, to he called the State of Texas, and admitted as
One of tile States of the Atierica  Union, to wit:

one of the States of this Union.
2. And be it firther resoiv'ed, That, the foregoing consen t of
longress is given upon le following condition., and with ile fol-
lowing guarantees, to wit:
 First. Said State to be formed sulbject to the adjustment Iy
ithis ( overamant of all questiotis of boundary thai may arise witi
ot her (Governments, anmd tle 'onstitution thereof, wvith the proper
ev-idenCe o1' its adoldtioi, bVy the pople)c of said lRepul)lie of Texas,
shall be tinsmitted to the President of the United States, to le laid
before Congress for its final action, on or before the first day of
Janunary, one thousand eight liundred and forty-six.
Second. Said State when aidmitted ino tihe Union, after
ceding to the United States all public edifices, fortifications,
barracks, ports anti hariors, tlnvy and nlvy-yards, docks, maga-
zi tes, irmns, artuatuents and ill other 'rope'rty anti means per-
taiing to tlie public defence, belonging to the said Republic of
Texas; shiall retain all the public funds, debits, taxes., and  dues
of every kind which may belong to or le due and owing said
Peliblic; and shall also retin aill the vacant and unappropri-
ated hands lying within its limits, to be applied to the layment
