AN ACT
o legalise certain .Mrriages; to provide for the celebration q
.Marriages and for o1her purposes.
Whereas, in many parts of Texas no person legally authoi-
ized to celeb.ate the rites of matrimony has existed; and where-
;s, from that cause many persons, have resorted to the practice
of marrying by bond, and others have been married by various
afficers of Justice not authorized to celebrate such marriages.
and whereas, public policy and the interests of families require
some legislative action on the subject: therefore,
Be it enacted In, Senate and JI,'mse of Representatives (f thr
republic qf Txas, in Congress assembled, That il persons who
have so intermarried he, and they are hereby authorized to go
before any of the persons hereinafter provided for, and publicly
solemnize the rites of matrimony; and all marriages so solemn-
ized are hereby declared of legal and binding efrect, from the
.period the pIemsonus had previously intermarried agrecaldy to the
custom of the times; and the issue of such persons are hereby
declared legitimate cbildren; Provided, however, that such mar-
riages shall be celebrated within six months from the passage
of this law; and provided further, that no legal bar exists to
such omarriage.
Sze:. 2. Be it furthrr enacted, That in cases where per-
sons have in tcrmarried as aforesaid agreeably to the customas of
the country, and either the husband or wife has died previous to
