CHAPTER 10.
AN ACT to amend sections 0682, 2683, 2684, and 4765 of the Code, and forother purposes.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
the State of Tennessee, That section 2638 of the Code of
Tennessee be, and the same is hereby amended, to read as
follows: On application of five credible persons, verified
by their oath, and setting forth that they have cause to
Insurrections.  believe that a certain free white man, slave, or free negro,
is engaged in, or advising, or aiding and abetting an in-
surrectionary movement, or where any slave or free negro
has been guilty of feloniously killing any free white per-
son, the judge in the circuit or district in which such de-
fendant is, shall forthwith open a court, empannel a grand
jury, and proceed regularly to the trial of such person by
indictment or presentment, as at a regular term of the
court.
SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, That the provision of
the section hereinbefore amended, be, and the same is
hereby extended to sections 2682, 2683, 2684, and also
section 4765 of the Code of Tennessee, 'and that this act
take effect from and after its passage.
SEC. 3. Be it further enacted, That there may be at-
tached to each regiment which now is, or may hereafter be
in the service of the State, one chaplain, elected by the
Caplains., regiment, and shall be entitled to such compensation as is
now allowed by the laws of the United States.
SEc. 4. Be it further enacted, That section 11 of the
act to raise, organize and equip a provisional force, and
ArmyActamend- for other purposes, passed May 6th, 1861, be so amended
ed.        as to embrace the word banks after word individuals, in
the last clause of said section.
