CHAPTER XXVIII,
' ACT more ghe.ftually to prohibit county oAccr.-
from speculating in county claims.
Szno 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the
State of Tennessee, That from and after the first day wim 01t
of' January next, no attorney general, deputy clerk.coe 0 %.ithii,
clerk, sherill; collector, constable, coroner or county , ait.
I trustee, shall purchase, trade for, or otherwise spe-
culate in county claims, cither directly or indirectly,
by him, themselves, or his or their agent or agents,
and if any such officer above named, shall in any
wise violate the true intent and meaning of this act,
either 1))' him, them, his or their agents, for his or
their use, such officer as above mentioned shall be
liable to indictment or presentment in any of the
county or circuit courts of any county wherein said
offence may be committed, and upon conviction
thereof, shall beliable to ajine notexceeding fifty dol-
tars nor less than ten dollars, and it is hereby made
the duty of the Judges of the circuit courts and At-
torney Generals of this State to give this act in
charge to their several grand juries.
Sea. 2. Be it enacted, That if any clerk, sherit' Violation oV

county trustee, shall be convicted under the provi- elemenor i 'f
sions of this act, it shall be deemed a misdemeanor l
in office for which he shall be removed by the court
hefore whom said conviction shall take place.
