Duration.    XXVIII. That this Act shall be, and is hereby, declared to be a Public
Act, and shall continue of force for the term of twenty-one years.
In the Sonaio House, the twenty-second day of December, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine, and in the eighty-fourth year of the
sovereignty and indepondonceo of the United States of America.

No. 4471.     AN ACT TO ALTER AND AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF
AIKEN.
I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, now met
and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That
the citizens of this State who may be inhabitants of the town of Aiken, or
owners of freehold therein, within the limits hereinafter prescribed, are
Limits of Town hereby declared a body corporate. The limits of the said town shall be hold
of Aiken.    and deemed to be in the form of a circle and a square upon that circle, with
the sides of the square touching the circumference of said circle on the
north, east, south and west. The said circle to describe a circumference one
mile in all directions from the central point of the intersection of the Rail-
road Avenue and Union street, as the centre of the said town; and the
streets within the limits of the said corporation to remain, in regard to num-
ber, location and extent, as now established by law, until altered by lawful
authority.
Government.  II. The said town shall be called Aiken, and be governed by an Intend-
ant and four Wardens, to be called the Town Council of Aiken, and by that
name have succession of memberz; keep a common seal, take and hold
property (necessary for corporate uses only), sue and be sued, implead and
be impleaded, and enjoy every right incident to an incorporation.
Qualifications of  III. That the said Intendant and Wardens shall always be persons who
oicers.    are constitutionally qualified to vote for members of the Legislature in this
State; who actually reside within the limits aforesaid, and have so resided at
least twelve months immediately preceding their election; and own in their
own right a freehold therein, worth at least five hundred dollars. Before
