AN ACT To ALTER AND AMEND THE ROAD LAW OF THIS STATE.
No. 4487.
I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, now met
and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That

day of December, A. D., one thousand eight hundred and twenty-five, be so
altred and amended as to read as follows: That each Commissioner of
Roads hereafter to be appointed or elected by the Legislature, is hereby de-
clared liable to serve as Commissioner for the term of four years from the Commissioners
date of such appointment or election, and until the first Monday in February yea.r
next after the expiration of his said term; but shall not be liable to serve
against his will until the end of four years from the expiration of said term;
and if from any cause a vacancy shall happen in any Board of Commis-
sioners now organized, or hereafter to be organized, such Board, or a majority
of them, shall have power to fill such vacancy by the appointment of another vacancy, how
Commissioner for the remainder of the term, who shall likewise be exempted sued.

II. That Commissioners appointed by the Legislature as aforesaid, shall
meet and organize their respective Boards on the first Monday in February, Time of Moot-

III. That the several Boards of Commissioners of Roads now organized,

from a scale of commutation, as shall be fixed by the Boards of Commis-
sioners respectively within their jurisdiction, as is hereinafter provided:
Provided, That no Commissioner shall be allowed to be a contractor for
