AN   ACT TO MAKE APPROPRIATIONS FOR TIE YEAR COMMENCING IN
No.4260.
OCTOBER, ONE THOUSAND 'EIGHT 11UNDRED AND FIFY-SIX.
I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, now met Appropria-
and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That tios.
the following sums be and they are hereby appropriated for the payment
of the various officers and expenses of the State Government, that is to
say :-
In the Executive Department: For the salary of the Governor, three Executive Do-
thousand five hundred dollars; for the Private Secretary of the Governor, partinwit.
five hundred dollars; for the Messenger of the Governor, two hundred and
fifty dollars; for the contingent fund of the Executive Department, ten
thousand dollars, to be subject to the draft of the Governor, and to be ac-
counted for annually by him to the Legislature; for the rent of the Gover-
nor's house in Columbia, three hundred dollars.
II. In the Legislative Department : For the pay of the members of the Legislative Do-
Legislature, and the Attorney General and Solicitors, during the present paroment.
session, and of the Committees appointed to inspect the Bank of the State
and its branches, twenty-one thousand dollars, if so much be necessary; for
the salaries of the Clerks of the Senate and House of Representatives, one
thousand dollars each, and to the said Clerks for the services of two Assistant
Clerks, two hundred and fifty dollars for the Clerk of the House, and two
hundred and fifty dollars for the Clerk of the Senate, to be paid at the
adjournment of the Legislature; for the salaries of two Messengers and two
Doorkeepers, each two hundred and fifty dollars, to be paid at the adjourn-
ment of the Legislature; for the salary of the Keeper of the State House
and Librarian, seven hundred dollars; for the salaries of the Reading Clerks
of the Senate and House of Representatives, each two hundred and fifty
dollars; for extra services of the Messenger of the House of Representa-
tives, fifty dollars, to be paid at the end of the session; for the services
of Engrossing Clerks, to be paid under the direction of the Speaker
of the House and President of the Senate, six hundred dollars; for
the Printers of the Senate and House of Representatives, in pursuance
of the contracts made by the Committees of both Houses, nine thousand
dollars, if so much be necessary for the printing executed by the said
Printers during the present session of the Legislature, the same to be paid
to them as soon as the amount of the said contracts shall be ascertained
by the Treasurer of the Upper Division; for the Printer, for printing in
