That, all Acts, and parts of Acts, and clauses of Acts, heretofore pas- sed for regulating the said Commissioners of Cross Roads, be, and the same hereby repealed. AN ACT To INCORPORATE CERTAIN SOCIETIES, ASSOCIATIONS AND COM- PANIES, AND TO RENEW AND AMEND THE CHARTERS OF OTHERS. I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, now met and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That Societies, &c. the officers and members of the following societies, associations and compa- incorporated. nies, to wit: the. Sumter Fire Engine Company, the Calhoun Hook and Ladder Company, of Georgetown, the Butler Guards, of Greenville, and the Edisto Rifles, of Orangcburg, be, and the same are hereby declared and constituted bodies politic and corporate, by the name and style to each of them hereinbefore respectively assigned. II. That the said societies, associations, and companies, according'to Powers, &c. their respective by-laws, shall have succession of officers and members, and shall have power respectively to make by-laws not repugnant to the laws of the land, and to havu, use, and keep a common seal, and the same to alter at will, to sue and be sued in any Court of this State, and to have and enjoy every right, power, and privilege incident to such corporations; and they are hereby empowered to hold, retain, possess, and enjoy all such property, real and personal, as they may now severally have and possess, or be enti- tied to, or which shall hereafter be given, bequeathed or devised to them respectively, or in any manner acquired by them, and to sell, alien, or trans- fer the same, or any part thereof: Provided, that the amount so held shall in no case exceed the sum of ten thousand dollars. Charleston III. That the charter of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce be, and Chamber of Commerce. the same is hereby revived and renewed for the term of fourteen years, and that all the Acts of the Charlespn Chamber of Commerce done in its cor- porate capacity since the expiration of their former Charter be, and the 3442 STATUTES AT'LARGE
