'AN ACT TO mitE APPROPRIATIONS FOR. THE YEAR COMMERG0INO IN 00-
No. 4147.
TOBER, ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND. FIFTY-THREE.
I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, now met
and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That
the following sims be, and they are hereby appropriated for the payment of
the various officers and expenses of the State Government, that is to say:
In the Executive Department:- For the salary of the Governor, three thou-  Executive
sand five hundred dollars; for the Private Secretary of the Governor, five Department.
hundred dollars; for the Messenger of the Governor, two hundred and
fifty dollars; for contingent fund of the Executive Department, twenty
thousand dollars, to be subject to the draft of the Governor, and to be ac-
counted for annually by him to the Legislature; for the rent of the Go-
.vernor's house in Columbia, three hundred dollars.
IL In the Legislative Department: For the pay of the members of the   Legislative
Legislature, and the Attorney General and Solicitors during the present Department.
session, twenty-one thousand dollars, if so much be necessary; for the
salaries of the Clerks of the Senate and House of Representatives, one
thousand dollars each, and to the said Clerks for the services of two As-
sistant Clerks, two hundred and fifty dollars for the Clerk of the House, and
two hundred and fifty dollars for the Clerk of the Senate, to be paid at the
adjournment of the Legislature; for the salaries of two Messengers and
two Door-keepers, each two hundred and fifty dollars, to be paid at the ad-
journment of the Legislature; for the salary of the Keeper of the State
House, and Librarian, seven hundred dollars; for the salaries of the Read-
ing Clerks of the Senate and House of Representatives, each two hundred
and fifty dollars, to be paid at the end of the session; for the services of
Engrossing Clerks, to be paid under the direction of the Speaker of the
House and President of the Senate, four hundred dollars; for the Printers
of the Senate and House of Representatives, in pursuance of the contracts
made by the Committees of both Houses, nine thousand dollars, if so much
be necessary, for the printing executed by the said Printers during the
present session of the Legislature, the same to be. paid to them as soon as
the amount of the said contracts shall be ascertained by the Treasurer of
the Upper Division; for the Printer, for printing in pamphlet form the
Acts and Journals of both Houses, Reports and Resolutions agreed to, the
Governor's Messages, Reports of the President of the Bank and Comp-
troller General, with the accompanying documents, three thousand seven
