sixteen, to fifty years of age, liable to perform road duty in said division.
Penalty for   XXV. That if any person or persons, who shall be appointed Warner, as
n  ed      aforesaid, shall neglect or refuse to act, he shall be fined in the sum of ten dol.

exempt from all road duty.

No. 2966. AN ACT To RAISE SUPPLIES FOR THE YEAR COMMENCING IN OCTOBERP ONE
THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND FORTY-SIX.
1. Be it enacted, by the Senate and House of Representatives, now met
and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That a
Tax on Lands.tax for the sums, and in the manner hereinafter mentioned, shall be raised and
paid into the public Treasury of this State, for the use and service thereof,
that is to say: thirty cents ad valorem on every hundred dollars of the value
of all the lands granted in this State, according to the existing clasification
heretofore established; one half per cent. per acre on all lands lying within the
Catawbalands:.Catawba Indian boundary, to be paid by each grantee or lessee of said Indian
lands, until otherwise directed by law; fifty-five cents per head on all Slaves;
Slaves.    two dollars on each Free Negro, Mulatto and Mustizoe, between the ages of
Free Negroes. fifteen and fifty years, except such as shall be clearly proved, to the satisfac.
tion of the Collector, to be incapable, from maims or otherwise, of providing a
