A. D. 1845. AN ACT To AUo110uAZr TH CCIMMISSIONERS OF CHoss ROADS ON CfARLES.
TON NECIG, TO BIWILD A GUARD HOUSE, AND FOR OTHER rURPOSES.
Empowered to  I. Be it enacted, by the Senate and House of Representatives, now met and
build a guard sitting in General Assemby, and by the authority of th_ same, That the Coin-
House.      missioners of Cross Roads on Charleston Neck, be and the same are here-
by authorized and empowered to build a Guard House on Charleston Neck,
and for this purpose to purchac and iold to them and their successors in
office, so much land as may be necessary therefor, and that they may, in addi-
toin to such funds as they may procure by private subscripton, appropriate
so much of the funds now under their control by law, as shall be necessary
for the purpose aforesaid.
Fairol may    11. That it shall and may be iwful for the Patrol or any other person or
lodge ins saidpersons under the auhority of the said Comnissioners of Cross Roads, to
guard house lodge in the said Guard House, all such slaves and free persons of color as
slaves or free
personsofcolormaybe found violating the laws of the State ; and .he said slaves and free
laken up, and persons of color shall receive such corporal punishment for violations of the
punishsuine. Patrol Law, as is prescribod by the said Patrol Law, unless the owner or other
person having the care and management of strh skives, or unless such free
persons of color, or their guardians, shall pay to the said Cormissionera of
Cross Roads a sum not exceeding one dollar for each and every of such
slaves, or free persons of color and if such slives and free persons of color
shall be charged with any otheroffencuagnii.t the lawsofthisState, then it shall
be lawful for the said Cojmmissioners of Cross Roads to detain the said slaves
and free persons of color in Said Guard flouse until they shall be dealt with
according to law.
Commissioners  III. That the said Commissioners of Cross Roals shotil have the manage-
tu aHuse. ment and control of the said Guard ilou.e,and that they me hereby authoris-
ed and empowered to employ stub persoti or p-rsons, establish such Rules,
and charge such fees as may be necessary for tht manintenitnce and regula-
tion thereof.
In the Senate House, the fifteenth day of December, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and forty-five, and in the seventioth year of tite Sove-
reigoty and Independence of the United States of America.

same tract, and conveyed by R. Cunnon ; thence on said line, southwtrdly
to the corner in the line between said land and William Roger's land; thence
westwardly on the line, to the corner on the road leading by Thso. Price's to
