thousand eight hundrod and forty-three, and in the sixty-cighth year of the Sovereignty
and Independence of the United States of America.

No. 2902.   AN ACT TO PROVIDE COMPENSATION TO OWNERS OF SLAVEs EXECUTEf.
1. Be il enacted, by the Senate and House of Represcutatives, now met

Court of Magistrates and Frecholders within this State, the Court imposing
such sentence, or a majority of them, shall, before they order the sentence to
be executed, appraise any such Slave at any sum not exceeding two hundred
dollars, and shall certify such appraisement to the Treasurer of the Division
within which such proceedings inay be had, who shall be authorized and re.
quired to pay the same to the dwner of such Slave.
