A. D. 1813. AN  ACT PRESCRIBNG T-E DUTIES OF CERTAIN OFFICElS IN THE COLLECTION
No. 2885.      OF SUPrLIES, THE PAYMENT OF SALARIES, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
J. Be it enacled, by the Senate andTHouse of Represertatives, now met and
Taxes to he  sitting in General Assembly, aid by the authority of the same, That all taxes
Paid in specie, for the use and service of this State, shall be paid in specie, paper medium, or
the notes of the specie-paying Banks of this State, and shall be ascertained and
rated by the Assessors and Collectors throughout the State, respectively, ac.
cording to the best of their know' ledge and information.
'rec negroc,  1I. The Tax Collectors of this State are authorized and required to issue
c.        Executions arainst all such free negroes, mulattoos and mostizoes, as shall
neglect or refuse to pay the tax imposed bly law, directed to the Sheriffs
of this State, requiring them to sell, for a term not exceeding one year, the ser-
vice ofsuch free negroes, mulattoos or mustizoes, to meet the payment of the
tax imposed: 1rovidei, That the Sheriff shall riot sell the service of any such
person for a longer term than shall be necessary to pay the taxes due and
costs.
Mnycrs, Show-  III. Ifanny person shall repreelt publicly, for gain and reward, any play,
no, &e-    comedy, trogedy, interude or farce, or other employment of the stage, or
any part therein, or shall exhibit wax figures, or shows of any kind whatsoever,
without having paid the tax required by law to be paid to the Clerks of the
Courts respectively, before such representation or exhibition, i shall be the
duty of the Clerk Of th Court or of any Magistrate for the District where the
same may be done, to issue aln Execution for double the amount of tax so im.
posed, which Execution may be directed to any Sheriff or Constable of this
State, and against the body or goods of tile person so being liable, and
which may be levied i any District in the State ; and every Magistrate who
shall so issue Execution, shall cause the amount of the same to be paid to
the Clerk of the Court for his District ; and the Clerks of Courts shall pay
annually into the Public Treasury all such taxes as may come into their hands
respectively : Provided, that nothing herein contained shall be construed to
extend to ally incorporated town, village or city.

lege ; and ifany person sla.l so offend, on conviction thereof, by indictment,
such person shall forftit and pay to the State, ten thousand dollars, and it shall
be the duty of such Tax Collector to prosecute the offinder.
Iransiont Per-  V. If any trnnsient person, not resident in the State, shall at any time sell
one.       or expose for sale, any goods, wares or merchandize whatever, in any house,
stall or public place, taler the first day of January in every year, such pi rson
shall make return On oath within twenty-four hours after commencing to sell
as aforesaid, of the whole amount of stock in trade, which he may have pos-
sessed at the timo, to the Tax Collector of the Disti ict or Parish in which tile
inc on Dc- same may be done ; and if such person shall neglect or refuse to make such
udhcrs.    return within the time prescribed above, lie shall, on conviction thereof, be.
fore any Court of competent jurisdiction, forfeit and pay to the State a sum
not exceeding ten thousand dollars, unless such person shall have procured
and paid for a license according to the provisions of an Act entitled  An Act
