Jail, now erected, or hereafter to be built, in their several Districts ; for which
purposes they are severally invested with the same powers, and subject to the
same penaltics, as heretofore established by the Act aforesaid.

AN ACT TO ESTABLISH CEURTAIN ROADS, BRIDGES, AND FERRIES.      No. 284.
I. Be it enacted, by the Senate and House of Representatives, now met Britthn's Fe
and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That rchi~artered.
Britton's Ferry, across Big Pedee River, be, and thesame is; rechartered,
and is hereby vested in Mary A. Martin, her heirs and assigns,, for the term
of seven years, who shall be allowed to demand and receive the satne rates
of toll heretofore allowed by law, viz : for overy foot passenger, six cents;
for every man and horse, twelve cents for. each head of cattle, hogs, sheep,
or goats, six cents ; for every led horse, six cents ; for every carriage with
two wheels, thirty.seven cents ; for every carriage with four wheels, with
their drivers, passengers, and horses, one dollar.
II. That John Paysinger be, and is hereby, authorized to alter and change Ilowit Ferr
the Hewit Ferry Road, in Newberry District, commencing  at the Fork be. and Stoney
low Mrs. Elnore's Lane, so as * to run on a point nearly central between Battery Rot
the said road and the Stoney Battery Road, and to alter and change the
Stoney Battery Road, ' so as to run on said point until near where it would
intersect the Mendenhall Mill Road, in fi-ont of the said John Paysinger's new
house ; on condition that the said John Paysinger, under the direction and
control of the Commissioner of that Road.Division, do lay out and keep up
in good repair, the said new road, at his own private expense, for five years.
III. That from and after the passage of this Act, the general Board ofool. Bd. o
Commissioners of Roads and Bridges for Pickens District, is hereby abolished; Coin'rs.of I
and each Board of Commissioners of Roads, Bridges, and Ferries, for the for  no
fifth and second Regiments in said District, shall have all the powers, and be
liable to the same duties, as the several Boards of Commissioners of Roads
and Bridges throughout the State.
IV. That the Commissioners of Roads for Lexifigton District, shall be New road t
and are hereby, authorized and empowered to open a new public Road, to o oned fror
be called  The Two Notch Road, from Columbia to- Merrit's Bridge, on Met'as
the South Edisto River : Provided, That no person shall be required to open Brideb on
or keep in repair the said road, who shall reside on the north side of the pub- So  dis
lic road leading from Columbia to Edgefield Court Ilouse, or within one mile  r.
of the same, on the south side thereof.
V. That the Bridge over Saltda River, at Pierce's Ford, known as Poor's Poor's Bri
Bridge, be, and the same is rechartere d, and is hereby vested in Hiram Cooley, over Salud
his heirs and assigns, for the term of fourteen years, with the same rates ofrecharterec
toll heretofore alloWcd by law.
