In the House of Representatives, Dec. 19, 1838,
Resolved, That the House do concur in the report. Ordered, thaf it be
returned to the Senate.

The committee onClaims, to whom were referred the petition of John Jones,
praying compensation for a slave executed, have had the same under consi
deration, and beg leave to report:-That they find the petitioner is justly enti.
tied to compensation, according to an Act of the Legislature, and therefore
recommend that his prayer be granted, and that the sum of one hundred and
twenty-two dollars and fifty-six cents be paid him for the slave executed.
Resolved, That the House do agree to the report. Ordered, that it be sent
to the Senate for concurrence.

Resolved, That Senate do concur. Ordered, it be returned to the House
of Representatives.

In the House of Representatives, Dec. 1, 1838.
The committee on Claims, to whom was referred the petition of Moses
Swan, praying for compensation as a witness in behalf of the State, in a case
of homicide, have had the same under consideration, and beg leave to report:
That the petitioner lived in the State of North Carolina, and on application of
the Solicitor of the Northern Circuit, he attended the Court of Chesterfield, as
a witness in an important criminal case, and was the means of enforcing jus-
tice, in a very aggravated case of manslaughter. Your committee would
therefore recommend, that the sum of twenty dollars be paid the said Moses
Swan, as compensation for his services in attending as a witness, as above
stated.
Resolved, That the House do agree to the report. Ordered, that it be sent
to the Senate for concurrence.

House of Representatives.

The committee on Claims, to whom was referred the account and petition
of James Wardlaw, have had the same under consideration, and respectfully
recommend that the sum of eighteen dollars and sixty-three cents, be paid the
said James Wardlaw, in full of his account, as stated in the petition.
Resolved, That the House do agree to the report. Ordered, that it be sent
to the Senate for concurrence.
