COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC BUILDINGS.
In the House of Representatives, Dec. 15, 1836.
The committee on Public Buildings to whom was referred the petition of Doctor
John Douglass, praying permission to erect1 an humble monument to the memory
of Capt. Swanson Lunsford, buried in the square on which the State House stands.
Report that they have considered the same, and recommend that the prayer of the
petitioner be granted.
Resolved, 'I hat this House do agree. Ordered, that it be sent to the Snate for
concurrence. By order of the House.             T. W. GLOVER, C. H R.
In Senate, Dec. O, 1836.
Resolved, That the Senate do concur. Ordered itbe returned to tc House of
Representatives. By order,                      JACOB WARLUY, C. S.
In the House of Representatives, Dec. 8, 1836.
The committee on Public Buildings to whom was referred the petition of sundry
citizens of Laurens district, praying for an appropriation for the erection of a now
Court-house for said district, Report: that they have had the same under consi-
deratton, recommend that the prayer of the petitioners be granted, and that an ap.
propriation be made of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) if so much be necessary,
for the purpose specified in the said petition.
.Resolved, That this House do agree. Ordered, that it be sent to the Senate for

In Senate, Dec. 21, 1836.
Resolved, That the Senate do concur. Ordered it be returned to the House of

In the House of Representatives, Dec. 15,1839.
The committee on Public Buildings, to whom was referred the petition of
sundry citizens of Edgefield, praying an appropriation for building a new Court-
house for said district.
Report, they have considered the same, and recommend that the prayer be grant-
ed, and that the sum of ten thousand dollars be appropriated for that purpose.
Resolved, That this House do agree. Ordered that it be sent to the Senate for
concurrence. By order of the House.             T. W. GLOVER, C. Hf. R.

Resolved, That the Senate do concur. Ordered to be returned to the House of

In the House of Representatives, Dec. 21, 1836.
The committee on Public Buildings, to whom was referred the Resolution of this
House, and the report of the Richland Delegation thereon, and the memorial of the
town-council of Columbia, on the subject of the old Jail of Richland district.
Report, That they have considered the same, and are of opinion, that the town-
council of Columbia should not be disturbed in their possession of said old Jail,
by negroes being confined therein. that may be committed or taken into the custody
of the Sheriff of Richland district.
And that the said town-council be permitted to continue in the possession of said
building, and use the same as a guard-house, holding the same as the tenants at will
of the State. And that the said town-council be permitted to enclose a part of the
lot or Which the said Jail stands, by rtinning a fence twenty-cight feet to the rear of
the same.
' And it appears to your committee, that if the negro Jail in Columbla is out 6f
repair, it is the duty of the commissioners of Public Buildings for Richland district,
at their own proper expences, as such commissioners to make the necessary re-
pairs.
Resolved, That this House do agree. Ordered to be sent to the Senate for con-
