DEc. 1836.  SEc. 6. When vacancies shall happen in the ofliceofTax
Collector, in any District or Parish, and it shall be deemed
necessary to fill the same before, and until the timepre-
Governor nay scribed for holding the regular election, the Governor for
fillvacancies, the time being, is hereby authorized to appoint to the
said office some fit and proper person, to enter upon the du-
tiesof his office, when he shall have given bond snd secuii-
ty, and to continue in office until a successor shall be duly
elected and commissioned.
SEC. 7. The bond and security herein required shall be.
approved, as now required by law.
SEC. 8. Tax Collectors elected or appointed by virtue
of this act, may be required to give further security, and
shall be liable to removal as is now provided for District
officers.
SEC. 9. That in those Parishes of the State, where there
may not be a Boar& of Approvers of Public Securities,
the bond of the Tax Collector shall be approved by the
Approvers of Public Securities of the District in which
the said Parish may be situated.

CHAPTER XXXIX.
AN ACT TO ALTER AND AMEND THE LAW IN RELATION TO
MAGISTRATES AND CONSTABLES, WITHIN THE PARISHES
OF ST. PHILLIP AND ST. MICHAEL, AND FOR OTHER PUR-
POSES, THEREIN MENTIONED.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Honorable the Senate and
House of Representatives, now met and sitting in Ge-
neral dessembly, and by the authority of the same, That
from and after the passing of this act, all causes small and
Row small  mean, cases of land-lord and tenant, forcible entry and de-
cases may be
tried,    tainer, and of naster and apprentice, arising within the
Parishes of St. Phillip and St. Michael, shall be tried and
adjudicated before the Judicial Magistrates of the said
Parishes, in the same manner and form as is now prescri-
bed by law, in all such cases arising within the limits of the
city of Charleston.
SEC. 2. That all prosecutions of slaves and free persons
of color, for crimes and misdemeanors arising withinthe
said Parishes, shall be tried and adjudged before the Judi-
cial Magistrates, in the same manner and form as is now
