CHAPTER XXXIV.
AN AcT TO INCREASE THE PENALTY FOR GIVING A TICKET
OR PERMIT TO ANY SLAVE, UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUM-
STANCES.
SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the Honorable the Senate and
House of Representatives, now met and sitting in General
Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That if any
person shall give a ticket or written permit to any Slave,
the property, or being under the charge of another, without
the consent or against the will of the owner or other per-
son having the charge of such Slave; authorizing such
Slave to be absent, or to deal, trade or traffic, such person
shall be liable to be indicted, and on conviction, be punished
by fine not exceeding one thousand dollars, and be impri-
soned not exceeding twelve months; the entire fine, thus
imposed to be given to the informer.
In the Senate House, the twenty-first day of December, in the
year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-six,
and in the sixty-first year of the Sovereignty and Indepen-
dence of the United States of America.

AN ACT TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF THE CO.M.MISSION-
ERS OF FREE SCHOOLS FOR LEXINGTON DISTRICT.
SEc. 1. Be it enacted by the Honorable the Senate and
House of Representatives, now met and sitting in Ge-
neral Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That
the number of Commissioners of Free Schools for Lexing-
ton District, be increased to twelve, instead of five, the
number now allowed by law.
