fees authorized by law in magistrals's cases, and the
additidual sun of twenty-five cents for attending and
conducting each trial.
SEC. 2. .lnd be it furher enacted by the authorily
afiresaid, That when, any slave or 'other person of
color shall be charged with an iffence not capital, a

convict, &c. ture and extent of the punishmuentto be inflicted: but
when ihe frecholders are unaniioff , the coneurvence
of the niagistrate shall notbe required: Provided, how-
ever, that on the trial of a slave, or other person of
color, for any capital -offrefic, the unanimous concur-
rence of the freeholders, and ilso of one of the princi-
pal magistates, shall be iecessaiiy to conviction.
SEc. 3. And be ii fut/her enacYed, That the Judicial
Magitrates Mlagistrates,shall open a docket book, and keep'it open
to Opena
docket book. every lay, during the sitting of the Magistrate's court,
for the trial of causes small and mean, in which shall be
entered all cases for the trial of slaves and other per-
sons of color; and upon. which entry being made, the
Judicial Magistrate presiding, shtill .appoint the time
when the trial shall be had. .
