THE Committ On Claims, to whom was referred the petition of Hugh Cain, pray
ing compensations for the 4pprehension of Jeptha IIrshaw, and so much of the (Gov.
ernor's mess'age as relates to that subject, respectfully ask leave to Report, that they
have iVe-n the subject such consideation as was dfue to its merits and.anagmtude, and
fil, that an individual of the name of Jeplha Ilarshaw, had frequently by alti of theft
and robberv of various descriptions, outraged tIhe good citizens of York distriit, that,
alnonigst other acts of atrocity, he hai conunitted the crime of horse stealing,that the
then commander in chief, .ohnm Geddes. Esq. being duly notified of the character of
the said Jeptha Ijarshaw. and the crimes lie had committed, and the probability of
bis eluding jastiee.by fleing from and without the limits of this State, did on the fif-
teenth day of September, A. D. 1819, issnte his proclamation, offiring a reward bf
five hundred dollars to any person or, persons, who would appreheland ma prosecute to
conviction the said offender. Your comwihtee also find, that the said ofiender was
.porehended and committed to the goal of York district. by the jietitioners -I lugh

praying- compensatimi for a negro executed, beg leave to Report, that they have had
the same mner consideration, and recommend that the prayer thereof be granted,
and that the sum of one hundred and twenty-two dollars, forty-four cents be appropria.

praying compensation for services rendered as Sheriff of Spartanburgh district at the
court of Equity, int May term 1826, Report, that they have duly considered the peti.
tioner's case, and recommendthat the sum of nine dolLrs be allowed him, for three
days attendance as Sheriff tfpon the court aforessid, and that an appropriation be made
