ism has inutlced him to present thett ftbr tle Legislative HIalls ofthe State, have per-
lbrmed the dtty assigned to them, and the pictunes will speelily be submitted to tite
disposal ofthe Legislature. itt the opinion of a dist inguished artist, ind one well qiua-
lified to judge, whose letter accompanies them-  I'They are paintings ofconsiderable
excellence, and highly honorable to the artist. The varieties of expression, character
und groupintg which lie has so happily combined together, with their spirited exaecu-
tion, woutld do credit to an experiened paitnter, and mutst, of coturse, tie more striking
itt tle productions ofan an mateutr artist engaged in other pursuits, and psiinting only im
the intervals of his leisure.
The Joint Committee recommend to the Legislature, that these paintings be httng
up in the Senate Cliatiher, Where there being no gallery, and the facilities of light and
extibition being greater, they may be placed with I most advantage.
