have duly considered the same, and find that in the year 1822, Mr. Skinner petitioned
for the remission of the treble taxes which had been imposvd on the baid Camapbel's
estate for the two preceding years, under the provisions of the law in relatson to ab.
sentees ; that the Legislature assentel to the petition, in consideration of the unfbr-
tunate-condition of the said Campbell, whom they did not regard as properly cibraced
in the defmiition ofan absentee ; but that notwithstanding the agreement nl the Legis-
lature-to the said petition, which prayed for the remission of the tax for the two pre-
ceding years, provision was only made in the appropriation act foi the remission of the
tax for one year. Your Committee are of opinion, therefore, that the intention of the
Legislature was defeated by mistake, and.recommend that provision he now made by
law for the remission ofthe treble tax upon the estate of the said Campbell, for the
year 1820.
Resolved, That the' House do agree to the report. Ordered,, That it be scnt to
the Senate for their concurrence.

THE Committee on Claims, to whom was referred the petition of Charles Gray,
praying compensation for a negro executed, have had the tian, under consideration,
and beg leave to recommend that the prayer thereof be granted to the amount of one
hundred and twenty-two dollars and forty-four cents.
Resolved, That the House do agree to the report. Ordered, That it be sent to the
Senate for concurrence.

nd others, praying paymejt for furnishing a carriage to a piece of ailillery, have had
the sane under consideration, and begiceave to recommend that the prayer thereof be
granted to the amount of sixty dollars.
Resolved, That the House do agree to the foregoing report. Ordered, That it be
sent to the Senate for concurrence.
