'1HE committee on public buildings, to whom was ,eierred the petition of Enos
.  A. Tart, sheriff f Marlian district, prtyiig that the gaol of said district may be
repaired, recommend that twelve hundred dollars be appropriated for the above
purpose.
Resolved, That this house do agree to the report. Ordered, That it be sent to the

T  HE committee on acconnts, to whom was referred the accolt of Gersham Chap-
man, for iepairs on the public buildingso on the state house square, Report, That
they lae examined the same, and recommend that provision be made for pay ing
him 9144 70 cents.
Resolved, That senate do agree to the report. Ordered, That it be sent to the
house of representatives for concurrence.

In the House of Representatives, necenber 4, 1822.
T  HE coimittee on tlaiis, to whom was refrred the petition of Meshack Wil-
hiams, praying compensation for supplies furnished the militia in the service of
the state, beg leaverespectively to Report, That they have had the petition and do-
cuments accompanying it under consideration, and find(, that during the spring of
1821, a party of negroes embodied neat* the plantation of Mrs. Horry, on Santee, had
assembled on South.Island shore; they murdvred Air. George Ford, a citizen of this
,state. The committee also find that detachments of militia were ordered on duty,
with a view to theapprehending the said negroes, and that the petitioner furnished
the said detachnients with supplies while on duy, to the at no  t of one hundred and
sixty-eight dollars sixty-two and a half cents, which our committee deem a moderate
charge. They therefore respectfully recommend that the pra3 er of the petition be
granted, and that the sum of one huitred and sixty-eight dollars sixty-two cents be
appropriated for that purpose.
Resolved, That the house do agree to the report.  Ordered, That it be sent to the
enate for concurrence.

THE committee of ways and means, to whom was referred the petition of the
commissioners of the Edgefield Academy, praying the legislature to grant them
the proceeds of the sale of the old court-hotise in that district, Report, That ihey have
considered the same, and recommend that the prayer of the petition be granted.
Resolved, That this house do agree to the report. Ordered, That the report be
sent to the Senate for concurrence.
