In the House of Representatives, December 14, 1821.
Vg1IE Committee on Claims, to to wliom was referred the petition of Francis Tis.
J. dale, praying compensation for an injurs done his slave while workiwg on the
public roads, beg leave to Report, That rhey have had the petition and documeits
under consideration, and find that the petitioners slave was ordered out to work upon
the public road; that while engaged in such labour, the accidental and unexpected
felling a tree, the said slave had both of his thighs and one arm broke, and that in
consequence thereof, the value of the said slave has diminished to the value of one
hundred dollars. The committee also find that tl.e petitioner has incurred and paid
medical bills to the amount of one hundr-d and fifty-three dollars, twenty.fic cents;
which sums, colleCr:Veiv, amont to two hundred and fiftythree dollars.
Your committe,. ; .pectfully recommend thit the praer of the petition be grant-
ed, and that the sum of two hundred and tifty-three dollars, tweiity-five cents, be up-
propriated for that purpose.
Reeolved, That the house do agree to the report. Ordered, That it be sent to the
senate for their concurrence.               By order of the House,

T IIE Committee on Claims, to wh som  was referred the petition of Matthew L.
I   Edvards, David Anderson, William Chappel, and Christian V. Barnes, praying
compensation for guarding Abbe% ille gaol, during the confinement of a felon under
eintencce of death, beg leave to Report, 'hiat hey have had the petition and docu.
ments under consideration, anil find, that the petitioners were draighted as a guard
for the safe keeping a felon inder sentence of death, in Abbeville gaol; the gaol at
that particular period bing in a very iniscure situation. Your committee therefore
respectfully recommend, that the sum of ten dollars and fifty cents be paid to each of
the petitioniers as a compensation for their services; and that an appropriation be
made for that purpose.
Resolved, That the house do agree to the report. Ordered, That it be sent to the
senate for concurrence.                     By order of the HIoniee,

T   IE Committee ont Clains, to whom was r-erred the petition of JohnI W. Jeane.
rette, praying to be reimbursed a stim of' money expended in r ebuilding a
chimney to the gaol in Georgetown district, beg leave to Report, That they have
had th petition and documents under consideration, and find, that during the gale
of the siumer of 1820, one of the chimneys ofthe gaol oftthe district of Georg(town
was blown down. The committee also find that the petitioner, as gaoler, procunred
the rebuilding the said gaol, and paid for the same out oif his private fusls. The
committee therefore respectfully recommend, that the prayer of the petition be
granted: and that the sum of thirty dollars be appropriated tor that purpose.
Resolved, That the house do agree to the report. Or:Ared, That it be sent to the
