An ACT to raise supplies for the year one thousand eight
hunird and %ineteen, and for  ther purposes therein
mentioned.
B) E it enated by thclionorable the Senate and House of
JlRepresentatives, now met and hitting in general as- Tx to be
sembly, and by the authority of thc same, That a tax for nsed.
the sims, and in the mannei, hreinafter mentioned, shall
be raised and paid into'the public trlsury of this state,
and for the use and service thereof.
And be it enacted by the authority afoecsaid, That Thirty-seven
thirty-seven and half cents ad valorem, on every hundred andialfcents
dollars, be paid in specie lpaper medium, or in the notes on all lands.

Andbe itfitrther enactedby the authority aforesaid, That Tax on
sev-. ty-five cents per head shall be levied on all slaves jf slaves, city
lots & lnds,
all ages and-descriptions ; the sum of two dollars per head faculties and
on all free negroes, mulattoes and'iustizoe4 except such professions.
as shill be clearly proved to the sabisfaction of the collect-
ors to be, incapable from me4ns or otherwise of providing
a livelihood, between the ages of fifteen and fifty ; and
thirty-seven and a half cents ad valorem on every hun-
,dred dollars of the value of all l9ts and lands, and buildings
within any city, tbwn, village. or borough ; and seventy-
five cents per hundred dollars on all stock in trade, ,facto-
rage, employments, faculties an d professions, (clergymen,
school masters, school mistresses and-mechanics excepted,)
to be ascertained and v'alued by the assessors and collect-
ors throughout this state, according to the best of their
knowledge and' inforination, to be paid in specie, paper
medium, or the note, of the banks of the state of South-
Carolina.
And be itfurther enacted b@ the authority aforesaid, That
every personsentitled to any taxable property or estate in Absentees
this state, who r'dides Without the limits of the United triple tmed.
States, shall pay ?or th'e use of this state, a triple tax on the
same ; but this clause shall not be construed to extend to
any person sent, or hereafter to be sent abroad in the ser-
vice of the Unied States, pr of this state, ,until one ycar
after the exp'iration of his commissiom.
