DECEMBER SE'SION, 1816.
In the Senate, Decenber 6, 1816.
 iHE committee to whom was referred the petition of Lemuel 11enton, re.
spectfully Report, That the prayer ofthe petition ought to be granted,
and recommnd that the 12nd mortgaged by him to the loan office, be recon.
veyed to the petitioner, upon his pa.ving up the interest, and all cost and char.
ges, to the treasurer, by the first day of March next, and that the sale of the
same be postponed to that day; and that in this transaction, the treasurer
shall act in such a manner as to reserve a lien to the state of the said land, to
recure the principal now due, ..nd what interest may herce.fter accrue.
flesolved, That this House do agree to the report. Ordered, That he same
ce sent to the House of Representatives for their concurrence.

T E committee on inland navigation, to whom was referred the petition of
sundry inhabitants of St. Helena island, praying for a canal from South
Edisto river to Fish creek, a distance of about three hundred yards, Report,
That they have considered the suime, and recommend that William C. Afeg.
gett, Joseph Edings, John Talbird, jun. William Jenkins, Isaac C. Jenkins
and Henry Calder, be hppointed commissioners to exapline the place stated
in the said petition, and report to the next session of the legish.ture.
Resolved, That this house do agree to the report-Ordered, That the same
be sint to the house of representatives for their concurrence.
