A n ACT to alter and aimend thMc   lii Laws
E it enacted bP the Sentate and Jmuse of Re-
preseta.tives, now met and sitting in gene-
ral asscmb/y, and by the authorty of the sane,
0;ouman That the co mmander in chief for the tirac being
der i   may, in case of invasion or other emergency, when
orot e.shall judge it necessary, order out any portion
Ce mitiLI. of the militia of this state to march to any part
thereof, and continue not more than three months
at any one time, and until relieved, for which he
shall make tlimely provision ; and likewise mayr,
in consequence of an application of the executive
of any of the United States on an invasion or in-
surrection, or on apprehension of an invasion of
such state, at his discretion, order any number of
militia, not excecdin'g one thrd part thereof, to
such state: Provieded, That the militia which shall
be so ordered out of the state, shall not be obliged
to continue on duty out of this state more than
two months at any one time.
And be it [itither e'nactedbU the authority qfore-
n      said, That in all cases when the militia are ordered
Cecs a:nld out by virtue of this act, volunteers and substi-
jlo    t be tutes shall be accepted in the place of those order-
accited. ed out, under the conditions, limitations and re-
strictions already established by law.
And be itfirt/wr enacted by th  authority afore-
cs      said, That no civil clicer whatsoever, shall on any

executd. -elony or breach of the peace) on any person what-
sonver, when such person shall be calkd out into
sc, vice, and embod'ed by the executive authority
of this state, in pursuance of the directions of this
act, or within thirty days after such person shall
be discharge i )m the service upon which such
person shall be called out, under the penaity of
twIty dollars ; and the serviCC of any such pro-
cess hal be vold to.all intents and purposes wvhat-
soever; and that all suits which may be peinding
agmnst such persons, shall stand and be continued
