E it enacted by the honorable Ie Senate and House <U' Representatives now met and sit- ting in general assembly, and by the authority of the same, That fbr each negro conlined and dicted in any gaol of this state, twenty-five cents per di- cm shall be allowed to the sheriff who shall have charge thereof, in lieu of all other claims on the part of the said sheriff; for such detention and di- eting. And be it farther enacted by the authority qfore- said, That from and immediately after the passing of this act, it shall be the duty of the sheriff of the several districts throughout this state, and they are enjoined and required to advertise in the Carolina gazettes in Charleston, all such negroes as are in their custody, o;ice in every week for three months,
